Context-based Personalized Settings for Mobile Location Sharing
Location Based Services are popular but the usage of the same privacy settings for
all users is not appropriate.
LBSes are coupled with smartphone services and these services cause 84%
potential privacy problems and 49% are more comfortable with their own location
information.
Social network sites used static settings to sharing information and it can be
managed by fondness of the user.
LBS are usually static for all location sharing features such as Facebook Google+
and also caused by asking a user about their sharing choices for every location.in
here we propose personalized privacy settings that can better cope with users
actual sharing preferences than static settings.
Static settings for LBSes would be appropriate if users actually had static privacy
preferences while sharing their locations with other people. In here to determine
the user’s behaviors they conducted an experiment with 80 student participant.
There methodology is divide in to three consecutive phases, they are Pre briefing,
LBS usage and Debriefing.
Participants were periodically asked to share their current location, or a picture of
their current location. Upon receiving a sharing request.in total 4334 sharing
requests were sent to participants which led to 2064 replies. At each sharing event
participate had the choice of sharing their location with everyone on Facebook
only their Facebook friends, or no one. Hence all of the participants made at least
one sharing choice that different from their static default sharing choice. Finally we
they believe that LBSes should provide personalisable privacy that reflect users
personal needs.
The location privacy settings are not static in practice because they depend on
user’s current context. Recent research has shown that particular information may
very for each user and may be based on complex social considerations.
Context is key in the development of new services that will impact social inclusion
for the emerging information society.
The rise of location based services will enable the application of personalization
and recommendation technologies in people s everyday lives.
